IT's CLIIIIFFFMAAAASSSS!!!!!

And there he is, the Good Lord Cliff, Sir Cliff, Prince Cliff, Santa himself, the first man of Christmas. Christmas can officially start now. and
OH HOW I ADORE CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

I am so excited, and I just cant hide it. its nearly christmas. seventeen days to go no less.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!

so indulge me, what do you love about christmas?whats your favourite christmas song? whats your favourite christmas carol? food? do your family have any christmas traditions?? I wanna hear them all.

ok, I'll start. every christmas from christmas eve onward has the same tradition. kids karols at trinity, early to bed with our stockings in my sisters room, then we wake up to find a huge stocking full of goodies, with a blower that we use to wake the whole family. once everyone has a cup of tea and grandad has his teeth in, we sing happy birthday to Jesus then open our stockings. then we all have to get dressed and eat breakfast before we are allowed in the lounge. then all the family have to go in the lounge before me and my sis, then we open the door to find mountains of presents (despite every year my parents say 'we couldnt afford much this year so dont get your hopes up'). Then we are only allowed to open one present before church. then after church we open our presents, one for each family member at a time.then dinner, then some kind of film, then we all laugh at my nan falling asleep. ah such joy! and this year I have a husband! this year, I want to drink champagne, and chai tea lattes (the most wonderful christmassy drink I discovered)

And my favourite christmas song? tough one. I think its slade. but then I have to be loyal to cliff, and at the same time I love singing descant to 'oh little town of bethlehem'.

Sorry if anyone hates christmas, but you dont have to read it!

We put our decorations up at the beginning of advent this year (27th November). That is flippin' early. Told some people at work and I got mocked for the rest of the week. Scrooges. I too love Christmas, but i share Cat's disdain for present-buying stress.

With regards to Cliff, i would rather eat my own bum than listen to him.

I dont adore buying presents,I would even go as far as to say I'm really rather crap at choosing them, fortunately my husband is very good at it. but I love wrapping them. I'm a proper 'good housekeeping' wrapper all pretty bows and a colour scheme for each year. souch fun. I'm sure I'm a gay man trapped inside a womans body.

Jon, since you have no choice on this blog but to listen to the majesty that is cliff (sir cliff to you) I challenge you to eat your own bum. I would like photographic evidence.

i have a cd with a song entitled 'santa claus got stuck up my chimney' and believe me it is impossible to hear it without conjoring up all sorts of sordid mental images.

"Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney,
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in the chimney
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
When he came last year

There he was in middle of the chimney
Roly-poly, fat and round
There he was in middle of the chimney
Not quite up and not quite down"

seriously. they allow children to listen to this

Hurrah! We always did Christmas the same as you, Jodie, but without the church or the grandparents. Now I too am with-husband, it's all new to me. This year is our first Christmas Day on our own! Well, we'll have a crazy cat and maniacal dog to keep us company.

I am racking my brains to invent new Christmas traditions of our own. Clearly, Muppets Christmas Carol has to be in there somewhere... and I have been wondering whether 9am is too early to open champagne?

So, this is probably how Christmas Day will pan out: Awake at 7am. I always wake up horribly early on Christmas Day (unlike any other day of the year) which has long been an annoyance to my entire family. I will be bounding around, trying to get the husband out of bed, prodding presents and excitedly un-popping champagne (breaking several glasses while I'm at it), winding up the animals and channel-hopping through the Christmas cartoons. 9am: Husband will surrender to Christmas madness and climb out of bed, by which time I'll be bathed, bright-eyed and full of wind (from the champagne). Present-opening flurry, wrapping paper in shreds all over the house, then we'll all pile on the sofa to eat Lindt truffles (and olives for the cat), and watch the crap telly. It is still ridiculously early, and we will be wondering what to do for the rest of the day.

Finally will remember to start the veg, but will be too tipsy to remember whether the carrots should be roasted with thyme or sage. Potatoes will burn, nut roast will shrivel, and we will have to open a new bottle of fizz (= liquid diet). Have forgotten to buy treats for the home-made crackers, so they will just bang and release rubbish jokes written by me in state of hysteria.

1pm: walk with the dog. Then come home, light fire, and fall asleep until it's time for Christmas picnic tea (cold nut roast and pickled onions in front of Toy Story 2). More chocolate than you could ever imagine, Baileys, and bed.

wow! can I come to your house??

there is no time too early to open champagne - thats why the phrase 'champagne breakfast' was invented.me and my sister are planning to have a very 'merry' christmas too now we are grown ups.

and not forgetting bridget jones on telly at 9 - oh yes my husband has already bought the christmas radio times - a long standing tradition in his house!

and also, lindt chocs are the best in the world!! (christmas is the one day of the year that jesus says its ok to eschew our ethical ideals!)

You sure can!!

We too have the Christmas Radio Times... but I have been searching for the Muppets - is it on? Don't tell me we have to buy the DVD.

The problem with ethical thinking is that you can't unwrap a truffle or watch a film without wondering how many sub-minimum-wagers and chemicals and food miles were involved in the manufacture.

So, any suggestions for my home-made cracker jokes?

Home made cracker jokes, good question- maybe even worth writing a blog on it. I may steal your idea.

But for now, I'll offer an old classic in to the arena:

What do you get if you cross a snowman with a vampire?
Frost bite!!!!

maybe you could put a bible verse in instead. but then again, its christmas, we dont want any of that religious nonsense, bring on the presents!!!

I think lindt are fair trade (by this I mean I havent read they are bad...and by this I mean I consciously avoid any literature for fear that they do murder children, much the same way as I do with urban outfitters)

I have a shameful admission...
I've never seen muppets christmas carol.

I know, shameful.

It all stems from the 'Going live' christmas carol where Phillip Schofield (up there with Cliff in my eyes) played the poor man, I forget his name, but I sobbed so hard that my mum stopped me watching it. (as she did with an american tail, fox and hound, and ET) so now I have a fear of sad movies.

but I've not totally avoided my sad habit of breaking down over fictional characters. I cried for a day when the English girl who was in friends (I'm really bad at names)died in cold feet. and I still well up now when I think about Dr Mark Greene dying in ER. and even in the last few minutes I've sobbed as boone died in lost.

sad isnt it?
