Is my dad secretly Noel Edmunds?

My attention has recently been drawn to the new 'game' show on channel 4. deal or no deal is a show fronted by Noel Edmonds (who, without a doubt has a few crossman genes somewhere in his make-up). the basic premise is 12 people with boxes of varying values, and one person choosing which box to open, hoping that their own box is of the highest value...and thats it really. the job of noel edmonds is to pace around like a prowling lion trying to make, what is essentially a not-that-high-tech coin-tossing experiment look like it needs skill and cunning to achieve.

But it is very compulsive viewing, not least for noels conversations with 'the banker' a faceless entity who offers the main player amounts of money to quit the game. Noel acts his way through these conversations like he is conversing with deity, conveying to the audience, almost, that their very lives hang in the balance of the contents of the box. I am amazed by his skill to create tension out of nothing, like an actor screaming at a blue screen which will eventually show a cgi monster.

Or perhaps it is that I am perplexed by the audience lapping up noels 'witty' banter, hanging on his every word, gasping at the skill it requires to guess which box has £250 000, and more so, perplexed that I am one of the audience. A large slice of our television programming has become like panto with cash prizes. At least Big Brother has some elements of social commentary!

Or is it just that it scares me that he looks so much like my dad?

I'm with you all the way, I hate the show but regularly watch it. The skill element is consistently over-hyped and some of the bollocks spouted by the banker is laughable. But yes, Noel does look alot like your Dad.

Do we lead the same life Jodie? Deal or no deal is awesome. My friend Rees is applying to go on it and to be honest I'm considering TV game shows since my car has gone to the scrapheap in the sky. Whats the easiest game show to go on with obviously the best cash returns? Is it deal or no deal? Is that the easiest game show television has ever seen?

Richard and Judy's 'You Say, We Pay' seems to be the easiest money-making game on TV (though I have yet to see Deal or No Deal) and you can apply every day!! (Hasn't worked for me yet, of course.) Judging by the contestants, the criteria are a) old age and b) senility, evidenced by an extremely slow response time and utter ignorance of the rules of the game. Plan A, pretend to be a senile old fart in order to get onto the show, then speedily clean them out before they get you off-air. Or Plan B, continue the show of senility and take advantage of Judy's pity to pocket thousands. Hurrah! The only trouble is getting on in the first place. Apart from that, it's foolproof.

The problem with shows like Deal or No Deal is that they rely on luck, and some people aren't naturally blessed. A game-show relying on brain power = far better odds, unless you are an imbecile.

So you got the Observer yesterday Jodes. I guess that means that you and Jon saw the eco-house article. I was thinking of sending it to you.

And Noel did come off well weird in the thing. A very strange character.

i would have said 15 to 1 cos they let anyone under the age of 30 go on it. but sadly no cash prizes, and its not on anymore. i would now say that channel 5 one with anagrams, with the blond girl. they let anyone on that

I have to agree with anna, the you say we pay game is easily the easiest way to make dollar.

But if its cash, not fame you're after, the 'this morning' competitions are the way to go. they have competitions like 'win an island' with questions like 'what colour is a red london bus?' a, red b,phillip schofield d,paintbrush.

If I had to go on a tv show though, I think it would be grand designs or something like that something a bit classy. though, of course, i wouldnt say no to the final rounds of x factor...'I'm here to win your heart and soul - thats my goal, ooooooh yeeeah'
